Economic Disasters Cause Hyperinflation
A series of disastrous economic decisions beginning in 1999 threw Zimbabwe into a tailspin.
By 2008, food production had declined by 45%, manufacturing output fell by 85% and the banking system was on the verge of collapse. This eventually led to the abandonment of the Zimbabwe dollar in 2009 in favor of stable international currencies, but not before millions of absurdly high-denomination notes had been printed.
