The Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) is one of the largest U.S. coin appraisal and certification agencies, and along with the Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS) accounts for the bulk of coin valuations you are likely to come across.
Certified Coin Registry for NGC Collectors Society Members
One of the services offered to NGC Collectors Society members is its Certified Coin Registry, a way for collectors to display their coins, achieve supplemental designations that may add extra value to them, compete for awards and recognition and interact with other collectors. Registry participants can enter NGC-certified coins into US and World Competitive Sets or Custom Sets.
Competitive Sets and Custom Sets
Competitive Sets are defined by the NGC and have slots available for each coin in each set. Coins are ranked based on relative rarity and grade, and collectors receive points accordingly. It offers friendly competition, a chance to compare collections, and is a good way to set collecting goals.
Custom Sets let collectors build sets as personal expressions of their own collecting interests. They are created through the NGC Collection Manager and can be shared or kept private.
Benefits of the Registry
The NGC Registry offers members a chance to compete with other collectors and the Registry is also a place to interact with other collectors to buy, sell, or trade coins as well as gain more knowledge about coin collecting through chat boards, journals and news forums.
The NGC Collectors Society is part of a larger Collectors Society that includes collectors of banknotes, comic books and magazines. You can get more information about the NGC Certified Coin Registry here on the NGC website.
