2019 US Mint Proof Set Debuts
By Rajesh Khunt | April 08, 2019

The 2019 United States Mint Proof Set® went on sale this March. It features 10 proof coins encased in two clear plastic cases in a sleeve depicting the Washington Monument at sunrise on its cover and photos of the America the Beautiful landmarks that appear on the quarters inside on the back.

What’s Included for 2019
In addition to proof coins of the Sacagawea dollar, Kennedy half dollar, Roosevelt dime, Jefferson nickel and Lincoln penny, the set has five proof quarters from the tenth annual release in the America the Beautiful Quarters® program. This year’s quarters feature:

  • Lowell National Historical Park in Massachusetts
  • American Memorial Park in the Northern Mariana Islands
  • War in the Pacific National Historical Park in Guam
  • San Antonio Missions National Historical Park in Texas
  • Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness in Idaho

2019 Dollar Commemorates Native Americans in the Space Program
The dollar coin has the familiar Sacagawea portrait on its obverse (face) and Mary Golda Ross, arguably the first Native American female engineer, writing calculations at her desk on the reverse. Ross (1908-2008), began working in the engineering department of Lockheed in 1942 and went on to work on the Agena Rocket Program and several other classified projects at the famous “Skunk Works” in Palmdale, California.
Behind her, an Atlas-Agena rocket launches into space, with an equation inscribed in its cloud. An astronaut, symbolic of Native American astronauts, spacewalks above. In the field behind, a group of stars indicates outer space. Inscriptions are “United States of America” and "$1."

A Bonus Coin, Too
The 2019 proof set includes a special edition 2019 Lincoln penny with a proof finish struck at the West Point Mint with a “W” mint mark. It’s packaged separately in clear US Mint plastic wrap. This is the first of three sets scheduled for 2019 to include a special edition penny with a “W” mint mark. The United States Mint Silver Proof Set® will include a penny with a reverse proof finish and the United States Mint Uncirculated Coin Set® will have a penny with an uncirculated finish.
