This Exact Size 1861-D Half Eagle replica coin consists of a superbly crafted collector's proof.
This variety (Variety 1) of the Liberty Head $5 Half Eagle was minted between 1839 and 1908. The coin designed by Christian Gobrecht, weighed 8.359 grams, and had a composition of 90% gold and 10% copper.
In 1866 the reverse of the coin was changed (Variety 2) to include the motto 'In God We Trust', above the eagle.
This coin is an exact size reproduction of the original (21.6 mm in diameter).
