1861 CONFEDERATE STATES OF AMERICA HALF DOLLAR REPLICA
This coin is a stunning replica of one of the most sought after half dollars ever minted - the 1861 CSA Half Dollar.
The unique history of the 1861 CSA half dollar
No one knows the exact number of 1861 Confederate Halves minted. The coins were struck at the New Orleans Mint, and feature a seated Lady Liberty on the obverse, and a confederate shield and the phrase 'CONFEDERATE STATES OF AMERICA' on the reverse. The obverse Lady Liberty is actually a crude copy of the USA Seated Half Dollar obverse. Mintage of these rare CSA half dollars ceased with the capture of New Orleans by the Union Army. This coin comes encased in an air tight acrylic holder to protect the coin for years to come.
