This particular Flowing Hair Large Cent was only minted in the 1793 (36,103 minted) in Philadelphia. The coin was the first cent struck by the authority of the United States Government, which began coin minting in 1793. The laws of coinage specified that the Cent should weigh twice as much as the half cent. Minting of the Liberty Cap large cent also began in 1793, and remained the only large cent minted until 1796.
