The Great American Coin Company offers some of the finest replica pirate coins available. Whether you are looking for pirate treasure loaded into one of our signature treasure chests or individual pirate doubloons, we can provide the perfect coins for the pirate in all of us. Our pirate doubloons are available in three sizes, in either gold or silver in both shiny and antique finish, and are available as a single doubloon or available in huge lots of up to 1,500 pirate treasure coins.

All our pirate coins are modeled after Portuguese and Spanish escudos and doubloons struck by hand between the 1500 and 1800s. The first gold escudo was minted in the year 1566 under the Spanish King Philip 2nd. At the time, this Eight Escudo was worth 16 Reales and represented some of the earliest Spanish Doubloons pirate coins that we see today. Gold Escudo Doubloons were issued from 1809-1849 and were hand-struck in denominations of one-half, one, two, four and eight escudos. The most famous of these coins is the two escudo, which is commonly referred to as a Doubloon. Doubloon, translated simply from Spanish, means a two sided coin or token. A majority of the two escudo doubloons were minted in Madrid, Spain, and consisted of approximately seven grams of gold. As the minting of these coins overlaps significantly with the colonization of the Americas, two escudo doubloons represent some of the best examples of pirate coins and pirate treasure available.

A silver eight escudo was introduced in Spain in the year 1864 and was minted for only a short time, until the year 1869. The silver eight escudo was valued at one quarter of the gold eight escudo.

One of several novelty pieces you can purchase is called the "Dead Men Tell No Tales Pirate Treasure Gold Doubloon". The back of the treasure coin is engraved with the phrase "Gold Doubloon 1587". The Long John Silver Doubloon coin and the Hispanola Ship Pirate Gold Doubloon are two other pieces of pirate treasure you can add to your collection. There's also the "treasure coin" gold doubloon coin showing a peg-legged pirate, an overflowing treasure chest, and a pirate ship in the background. A variation on that theme is the "buried treasure" pirate gold coin doubloon. "The crew" pirate gold treasure coin features the engraved words "The Crew, Pirates All".

The doubloon was used as currency in Spain until the mid-19th Century, under the reign of Queen Isabella 2nd, when the Spanish Real gained favor at the expense of the escudo.

Since the Pirates of the Carribean movie series came out, replicas of pirate coins and accessories have gained a new-found popularity. Among the pirate coins that are sure to capture the imagination of any pirate enthusiast is the Cursed Aztec Gold Treasure Coin. Measuring two inches across and weighing nearly two ounces, it's one of several ersatz pirate coins that has a highly realistic look and feel to it. Depending on the size of your collection, you can store your pirate coins in a treasure chest that holds 40 pirate coins, or you can get some coin pouches that each hold 10 Aztec pirate coins. Many varieties of gold and silver novelty pirate coins are now in stock and would be a treasured addition to any collection. Depending on your preference, authentic-looking pirate coins are available in either a shiny or antique finish.

Pirate doubloons, two-sided gold or silver coins minted primarily in Madrid, Spain, were used as currency from the mid 16th century until the second half of the 19th century. The sizes of Escudo doubloons include the two Escudo doubloon, the four Escudo doubloon, and the eight Escudo doubloon. The sizes of these reproduction pirate doubloons are comparable to a U.S. quarter, half dollar, and silver dollar, respectively. The level of detail and the feeling of authenticity that you get from these pirate doubloons makes you wonder if they weren't once handled by Long John Silver, himself. Replica pirate doubloons provide a glimpse into nautical history during a time when commerce on the high seas was a risky proposition. Young fans of the book Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson are among those who would enjoy owning a set of pirate doubloons and novelty pirate coins.
